Last updated:

1. Who is conducting this research?

This research is conducted by Yashas Hasaganur Prasanna Kumar, an independent researcher and founder of Nyx, a personal safety device project currently under development.

Data controller: Yashas Hasaganur Prasanna Kumar
Contact email: yashashp2@gmail.com

Nyx is not currently incorporated as a company.

2. Purpose of the research

The survey aims to understand personal safety experiences, identify limitations of existing safety solutions and evaluate potential demand for Nyx.

Findings may be used for product development, business planning, market validation, funding applications and UK Innovator Founder Visa endorsement preparation.

3. Information collected

The survey requests information about:

  • Age range and educational or employment status.
  • Personal safety experiences and concerns.
  • Existing personal safety measures.
  • Difficulties using smartphones in potentially unsafe situations.
  • Product preferences and purchasing intentions.

The survey does not intentionally request names, email addresses or other directly identifying information.

Participants should avoid providing identifying or sensitive details about themselves or others.

4. How information is used

Responses will be analysed to identify customer needs, common safety concerns and product preferences.

Aggregated or anonymised findings may be shared with business advisers, potential investors, funding organisations and Innovator Founder Visa endorsing bodies.

Identifiable individual responses will not be shared with these parties unless there is an appropriate lawful basis and participants have been informed.

5. Lawful basis

Where survey information constitutes personal data, the intended lawful basis is legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR, subject to completing and documenting a legitimate interests assessment.

The legitimate interest is conducting proportionate customer research to assess the feasibility of a proposed personal safety product.

Participation in the survey is voluntary.

6. Storage and security

Responses are collected using Google Forms and may be stored in a linked Google Sheets document or exported for analysis.

Access will be restricted to the researcher. Reasonable measures will be taken to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure.

Google's services may involve processing personal data outside the UK, subject to applicable transfer safeguards.

7. Data retention

Survey responses will be retained for 24 months after the survey closes, unless a shorter period is required.

After this period, identifiable research data will be securely deleted or anonymised. Aggregated findings that cannot identify individuals may be retained for longer.

8. Your rights

Where UK data protection law applies to information about you, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal data, object to certain processing or request restrictions on its use.

You can contact the researcher at yashashp2@gmail.com.

Because the survey does not request identifying information, it may not be possible to locate a particular response after submission.

You may also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk.

9. Automated decisions

Survey responses will not be used to make solely automated decisions about participants that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

10. Changes to this notice

This notice may be updated if the research methods, data handling arrangements or legal status of Nyx change.
